I survived!!

So today was Thanksgiving. I spent my time with my grandmother in Summerville. Now i'm use to big get togethers at holidays and children and all that... after all i am the all powerful babysitter for any of my relatives and their friends. Today i was the only person willing to hang out with the kids. There were 3 of them, so it wasn't that bad. I even sat at the KIDDIE TABLE with them lol. im soo nice :) I love these kids but man did they wear me out. I had to stop eating at one point to help the little girl to the bathroom... which was a treat, we played mutiple games, watched Mighty Joe Young, and while eating they all exclamed that there was turkey and mashed potatoes under the table. Guess who had to clean that mess up. I'll give you a hint... ME! But it was a very enjoyable and noisey thanksgiving, and I had a really good time.

Happy Thanksgiving

"If the only prayer you said in your whole life was, "thank you," that would suffice." ~Meister Eckhart

So tomorrow is Thanksgiving. I love this holiday, not only for the tremendous amount of food that i consume every year (lol) but also for the amount of time i get to spend with my family that I don't see very often. Many people have turned this holiday into an excuse to just eat a lot and watch football. Many don't treasure the time with family and realize all that they are thankful for. Every year my family gets together and has a huge feast. We cook everything that we can find that just tastes good. And we share it with all our friends. We have one upstanding tradition, we all sit down after syaing the blessing and go around the table telling what we are thankful for. I have a list of things that I am thankful for that I would like to share with you:

  1. My family

  2. The grace of God

  3. being alive and well

  4. having friends

  5. my gifts that God has given me

  6. clothes on my back

  7. a place to live

  8. an education

There are many more things that I am thankful for, but i don't want to bore you with my list :) Remember that you should always be thankful for what you have everyday, when you wake up in the morning you should thank God that you woke up .

"Thanksgiving was never meant to be shut up in a single day." ~Robert Caspar Lintner

Achieving your goals

If anybody actually reads this blog, then they would know that I am a MAJOR music freak! Well, my band director, Mr. Hair, informed me last week that I would have to learn how to play the french horn by Christmas vacation. He gave me my instrument today and said play! Besides Diamond, who just got a french horn today as well (she originally plays sax) I am the only other horn player! And to top it all off, I have to play first part!!! I was definately not expecting this :). He wants me to learn this so quickly so I can participate in the brass choir at an ice show. I was shocked by this quick transition, but I am up to the challenge that was put on me by Mr. Hair. I just have to practice, and the way I see it is, if I wasnt to be a music education major, I have to learn the basics for all the insturments anyway.. so why not start now?? It is just another stepping stone on the way to my mojor goal.

I remember one of Mrr. Brady's famous quotes...

"Never trade what you want at the moment for what you want the most."

So im back, two in a row!! Yeah! lol. THis one is about a few saturdays ago..
as you may know, im in the Marching band at BC. Well we went to State Finals, and I am VERY dissapointed in our score. We made 11 out of 12. I am accustomed to being if not in the top three, then the top five. I know exactly what happend too. The band director.. even though I love him to death, does not enforce any rules that he makes. we dont practice like we should, we never get anything done. The attitude of this band really is horrible. It feels like nobody wants it as much as me and a select others. I feel like this band has a lot of potential, but with some of the people there, we probably wont make it far in the world of competitive marching band unless some major changes are made.
